Hi all.
I have seen sand, especially white sand, often used in certain areas instead of soil to create a kind of meandering path effect. The sand remains vegetation free. ADA show tanks often have this.

I have entirely covered the bottom of my tank with soil and it is carpeted with baby tears. I was thinking though, it might be nice to clear away some of the carpeting and lay some common aquarium gravel over the top of the soil and thus hopefully have a vegetation free are.

Any one ever heard of this technique being used?
