i have a super prego amano shrimp... i hear its almost impossible to breed these cause the eggs require brackish water and then slowly needs to turn fresh as the fry get older.. is this true, and is there any point in trying to breed these

A few people claim to have had amano babies survive in a freshwater only tank, but I'm skeptical. I wouldn't try to breed them unless you want to setup a SW tank to rear the hatchlings in, but who knows? Maybe you'll be one of the lucky few....

I agree, If you want to breed them sucessfully you're going to need to invest some $$ and time. But it can be very rewarding I've heard.

Yea, definately not worth the work. I tried in a small 2.5 gallon tank for fun. It's hard to keep salinity right in a tank that small.

I have bred Amano shrimp for a while. You really need to have Phytoplankton to feed to the young. I have had up to 40% survival rate. It is allot of work and amano shrimp are not that expensive anymore so it kind of doesn't pay to other then self gratification.
