amano shrimp breeding in fw

That would be awesome, however it's impossible.

Perhaps you don't have amanos, and actually have whisker shrimp or some other kind of shrimp. Or maybe there was a hitch hiker shrimp on a plant or something.

Did you ever see your amanos berried? Was your tank full of zoe that you watched mature?

Perhaps it was a smaller shrimp that was introduced accidentally that you did not notice before?

i never see the amanos i do not know they hide in the plants all day i sanitize my plants in the hydrogen peroxide so i do not see how a hitch hiker would have got in. the tank was used for sw before and has only been set up with fw for 2 months so im sure there is still salt in it but i thought they would only breed in full salt water and i am pretty sure they are amanos i will try to get pictures of the baby and the mature shrimp

They do breed in freshwater but, the hatched Zoes must be transferred to saltwater rich in phytoplankton to survive, feed, and mutate to the next phase. This mimics the natural process of the zoes, unable to grab hold in streams etc., being washed downstream into saltwater and then finding there way back to freshwater after they mutate into the adult form.

does this mean it probably was one but is dead now?
