Would amanos be ok with a betta? I have an adult and juvenile grass shrimp in the tank atm but considering amanos for any other algae.

I don't think grass shrimp eat algae, assuming they're ghost shrimp.

Amanos will eat algae and they'll be fine with a betta if it's not substantially smaller. The betta will attack it at first, hopefully it'll be able to fend it off.

You'll probably need to give it hiding spaces, for when it molts.

Ultimately compatibility will be based on the disposition of your betta.
Mine hide during the day and only come out at night. The betta is out of the tank right now getting treated for fin rot and all the shrimp are so happy and out and about that I feel kinda bad for them :p
At most seen the betta swim and stare at the current shrimp but doesn't do anything if they don't scuttle off. Chases them when they do lol. I had seen red shrimp at the nearest petco and I think they were labled amano... Not sure now as any pics I've seen amanos are more like grass shrimp coloring. Just was looking for something to eat some algae on the moss in the tank. I toothbrush most of it off or what. Can wrap up on the bristles.
If you want something to eat the algae I would recommend nerite snails or ramshorn. Ramshorn can asexually reproduce and could become pests if they have an excessive food source.

Nerites are probably better for what you're looking for, but they may lay eggs that are hard to remove, small little white specs on driftwood or something. No big deal IME but yeah just letting you know.

My amano shrimps are OK. When I first added them to the betta tank, I included a clay pot for them to hide. For the first several days, I couldn't see them anywhere. The betta also wanted them! But days later, the betta had learned to ignore them and the amano now seldom hide.
Got plenty of ramshorns and otos in there, neither touches that algae.
To make a guess by the looks of it staghorn. Was probably in the moss already and I just noticed it after it became noticeable. Black thread looking stuff.

Is it short and in small tufts? If so, it's black beard algae, which need spot treatments or CO2 to go away. Nothing eats that.
Nope, looks exactly like long black threads like string not tufts. Not sure if the snails munch it or if they're munching moss.
