I have a 10 gallon "Amazon Basin" themed tank currently planted with Echinodorus parviflorus, compacta, kleiner prinz and angustifolia. I'm thinking about adding a couple of Alternanthera reineckii 'Mini' and Staurogyne repens as accent plants. I do not want them to carpet, but rather remain as a small group. If I only plant a couple of plugs each, will they stay compact or spread as a carpet anyway?

neither one will explode on you. My vote is for the repens if you don't want a sharp color contrast to your swords.

The S. repens should be reasonably easy to keep in check. I don't think the AR Mini will really spread as much of a carpet anyway.
