I recently purchased the Rena XP3 and am anxious to get it running but I'm have trouble with their "preplanned" plumbing.
--This is my first cannister filter and so I'm unsure of how far you can push them with customization. --
I have a self made hood on a 40gallon and there will be some tricks getting it plumbed in. It's hard to explain but because of the way it is situated those bulky inlet and outlet elbows will look more like sore thumbs. I wondered how much you can stray from their design and still have an effective system. If I use their plumbing it will put a black eye on my hood configuration. Can you go with a narrower inlet and outlet hose like 1/2" ID rather than the supplied 5/8 ID. Also store bought vinyl tubing T-connectors, L-Connectors and such...can I incorperate these.

Really, just want to hear others experience in customization...

thanks

I was gonna downsize my ProII's hose which is 5/8" to 1/2" for some lily pipes I got and it works fine, the pressure will be a bit higher though.
