I started this tank and in about two weeks I started noticing brown algae, mostly on the plants. There were no fish in the tank for the first three weeks when the tank was cycling. Light was for 8 hours a day. I am using Aquarium co-op fertilizers - easy green, iron and easy carbon. I also added two easy root tabs. Substrate is just a black sand. Water is a mix of 1/3 tap and 2/3 ro water. (ph 7.5, KH 3, GH 3) My tap water is ph 8.5, I want to keep betta so I decided to mix ro water to lower ph.
My question is what am I doing wrong? What is causing the algae to grow?
