Hopefully someone can help me with this. I just added some grapevine wood to my 7 gallon tank yesterday with java moss attached. The java moss had been sitting in a glass vase for about a month or so with lighting from an incandescent bulb. After having the moss in the tank for a day now, it appears to have a white/grayish fuzz covering it. I have been dosing my tank with excel previous to adding the moss and DW.

What could this be? I'm not too familiar with different types of algaes or fungus. :help:

it is fungus. this almost always happens with grapevine (happened to me too). solution: get rid of it and get some real driftwood.

Be patient, the fungus fuzz will disappear after a month or two. The fungus can appear on "real" driftwood too, even if you boil it and soak it. I'm not sure how the fuzz might effect the growth of the java moss though, the fine little hairs seem to collect all kinds of stuff. You might want to wait until the fungus passes to attach the jave moss. Good luck

no lie on the above post. I got a little patch of fungus on my ADA old black wood a few days after i introduced them into my tank. I will go away, give it some time.
