Hello everyone. I am new and this is my first post.

I have been interested in CPOs for awhile, and now I finally have a chance to have them in my tank. I used to have a guppy tank, but then all of them mysteriously died.:help: (That tank had been going strong for six months) Anyways, I was hoping that anyone with experience could help me with ideas for this tank. I was wondering what other crayfish owner have for their crays. Also, any general tips would be appreciated. I will post pictures once the tank is up an running.

The current supplies I have are:

a 25g Sea Clear tank
a heater
playsand substrate
and an aqueon quiet-flow 30 filter
(and then all of the other basic things like a water parameters test kit and such)

I am going to empty and re-cycle the tank so that whatever killed my guppies won't kill my new CPOs.

Thanks in advance everyone.

@MitchellLawson - I think that one of them i had bought was diseased. I only had 6-7 guppies luckily.

@mordalphus - Thanks for the tip. I will make sure that I have many hiding places.

Since you have sand, also throw in some Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS) to keep the sand aerated.

Not sure if you also have water dechlorinator and a test kit.

To add to what mordalphus said... they are aggressive toward everything.

That being said, they are neat. I will not have another one again though.

Thanks for the tips! I will be sure that there is enough room for them to each have a little territory.

What is the average life expectancy of a CPO?

I think you'd wanna make sure the CPO's have enough calcium as well. As they need it more than shrimp

I have made all of the plans for my tank! Sadly I can't post the drawings I have made because my scanner broke.

I can post my plant list though.

These are mostly lowlight plants as I only have around .5 watts per gallon.

Java Moss

Christmas Moss

Bacopa Carolina x2

Pygmy Chain Sword

Brazilian Pennywort

Tiger Lotus (green)

Anubias Barteri var. Nana

Amazon Sword x2

Those are the plants that I am planning on now. If you have any suggestions by all means, speak up!

I can tell you that if you have any degree of success with the Amazon swords they will QUICKLY outgrow a 25g tank.

I'm not telling you what to use, as they're fantastic plants, but be prepared to deal with 20 two-foot-long leaves in a matter of months.

I have 2 in a 10 gallon tank with a few cherry shrimp and some young gertrude rainbows. The tank is heavily planted, but they've not been even remotely aggressive toward anything but each other. Even that is minimal and more bark than bite. Sounds like I may be lucky in that regard though!

I quite enjoy mine, and really don't do anything special for them. They eat the same stuff the shrimp eat, don't mess with my plants, and are quite entertaining.

+1, two might be a bit much as they send out runners quite quickly. I still have the one I got from Petco like a year back and I have to trim leaves like weekly just so it stays "small" in my 10 gallon. Sent out runners twice but I snipped those too :O

MoeBetta - Thank you for that tip... I have been told by people at my aquarium store that they will only grow to four inches :angryfire . Man... I've got to find a new aquarium store. :icon_mad:

JustJen - That is exactly the reason I want them :proud:

diwu13 - I think that the amazon swords are off of my list now. I don't want to be constantly snipping.

Thanks everyone for your tips... I just got money for Christmas so I can finally start to order things!
