Adding iron...

I'm going to start adding liquid iron to my tanks. Any suggestions on which kind? (seachem?) How often do you add it - weekly?

Also, is it safe to assume that it's safe for shrimp tanks?

You can use Seachems Flourish as a balanced micro-mix which contains iron. Or if you want to target iron exclusively, Flourish Iron should work. At the recommended dosing it should be safe for shrimp.

CSM-B is another micro mix with iron, a powder you can mix with water to get a solution to dose. You can also get various iron chelates (chelators like EDTA or DTPA) as powdery substances. Again, toxicity comes with the amount used.

To pay for college, way back in the dark ages, I worked as a clean up laborer in a steel mill. I got to watch liquid iron being poured from a blast furnace into railroad car "bottles" for transfer to the steel furnaces to be turned into steel. Huge quantities of liquid iron is truly an amazing sight.
