Added some new fish today and then...

So I added 13 rummy nose to my 8 existing rummy nose. One of the fish took a little too long to acclimate and the pictus came swooping around a plant and sucked him right up! Basically a $2 meal.

OMG. I didn't know they were mean...sounds like u created a meal for that guy.
Not mean! Just like the rest of us that like a good meal when we find it!
Most of us will eat a steak on a plate even if we would not chase one down on the hoof.
I couldn't believe it! Everything I read says pictus are community fish. Btw, my guy is so freakin fast. He darts across 5' in under 1 second. And never hits anything! Really cool. I like him.

That is a real cool picture.
Many catfish are predatory and have large enough mouths to eat fish up to half their own length.

Pictus are 'community fish' only when the community is fish too large to eat.
Perhaps the medium to larger Rainbow fish, Congo Tetras, Red Line Barbs and similar larger species (fast moving, mid to upper tank) are better tank mates than 'bite size' tetras.

I have a fish that is built like a Pictus, but the color is wrong. He (she?) is in a tank with similar sized fish, and is fine. But if I put live food in the tank (earth worms, mostly) this cat and the other predators are right on them. Guppy culls did not live overnight. Next day all gone.
