I have a 46G bowfront with an inch of Torpedo Beach sand (0.2mm-1.2mm). It has been up and running for just under a year.

I'd like to plant the tank and so need to add more substrate. I have more Torpedo Beach sand, but I'd prefer a darker look as it hides the detritis better and so it won't turn an ugly color.

In a previous post, I asked about mixing with Flourite, but am now thinking I would rather use Eco-Complete because I have a shoal of cories in the tank.

Should I simply add about 2 bags of Eco-Complete to the tank? I was thinking of maybe trying the red instead of the black as it might look better if there is some mixing of the smaller particles.

Should I take out all the sand and replace it entirely with the Eco?

Should I just use the sand since I have more of it and live with the lighter color?

I personally would recommend removing the sand and just going with Eco-Complete. If you are going with a planted tank the sand really isn't of any benefit to you on the bottom and it can become compacted creating pockets of anerobic bacteria.
