Hi everyone,

I currently have 2 established tanks. (1) 10G PFR only tank and (1) 20G long Celestial Pearls, Pigmy Cories, Endlers, and a few RCS's. Pressurized paintball co2 on 20g and diy co2 on 10g.

I will be getting my new Fluval Ebi on Friday. I ordered an extra lamp with it as well. I want to start CRS in this tank when it is established and ready. I know that they require lower ph then RCS and PFR's. I wanted to add ADA Seiryu Stones and Driftwood to this tank. I've got HC and Marimo balls on the way as well. My questions are as follows...

Although ADA Seiryu raises ph will it be a harmful rise to CRS?

Although driftwood lowers ph will it balance out the rise from the stone?

What kind of driftwood is safe for shrimp?

Should I add only one or the other?

I will have (2) 13W 6500K Fluval compact Flouro's over the tank. Can DIY Co2 lower the ph enough with the above tank decor?

Tap water measures 7.6 or so. I've been using that for both my other tanks with no problems. (just adding de-chlorinator)

Current tank parameters in both established tanks are

0 Ammonia
0 Nitrites
< 5 Nitrates
ph 6.4-6.8

My brain is mush from all the contradicting things I have read on different websites!!! I would so much appreciate your advice!

Thank you!

Definitely grab a GH and KH test kit as well. Very important with shrimp keeping. I have the exact same fluval ebi set up with my CRS in it. I only have driftwood in it. No CO2 and no stones. They are breeding like crazy. Can't remember the exact parameters but I can post them when I get home tonight if you want.

Thanks CPD. Yes I'd be very interested in knowing what your params are. Do you have one or two of the 13 watt Fluval light on your Ebi? I got 2 because it was a good deal and also I am going to be putting in HC. Between the lights and plants I thought I should add co2. Also to bring my ph down. I'm trying to find some driftwood but just not sure what kind is good. I do have Manzanita in my two other tanks. I may just have to use that. Anyway I would love to hear your params. Do you have a pic? Oh and yes I will pick up a gh and kh test. Thanks!

That's a nice looking tank! How many CRS do you have? My tank is suppose to be here tomorrow! I can't wait! So what should my kh and gh be at for shrimp tank?? I will have to go down over the weekend to the ONLY non chain LFS which is South of Nashville and see if they carry kh and gh test. I've never seen it at Petco or Petsmart.

Thank you! If I had to take a guess I'd say ~30 My GH is at 6, KH 2, TDS is at 230 which is very high for these guys but with subtle water changes I'm bringing it down. Temp is at 23 degrees Celsius which is 73F could be a little lower as well. But I get a good survival rate with these parameters.

Ok! Well you're helping me learn a bit more about what I'm going to need for CRS. I got my Ebi tonight! The background was barely stuck to the tank so I shaved off the original silicone and re-siliconed the back myself. It's drying now.

What do you think if I took some substrate from my established tanks and bagged it in media bags fairly loosely and used that at the bottom of the Ebi to create depth in the back and kill two birds with one stone by seeding the Fluval substrate and adding depth at the same time? It would stay permanently but would allow me to seed the substrate without mixing the light Flourite gravel with the dark Fluval Shrimp.

Any thoughts?

Ya seeding the substrate sounds like a good idea to me. I know that my shrimp substrate took a while to leech out all the ammonia so just be careful not to rush into things. I know just how hard it can be :p
