So tonight I was doing a water change in my 30 gal, about a 35% water change and as I'm cleaning and doing my thing I remember that I have some dried iodine on my arm from where I donated blood today. I don't think that much got into the tank but I was wondering what effects would iodine in my tank have on my plants and fish. Right now I just have some java ferns, white cloud minnows and some bandit cories. I just hope I didn't accidentally kill them all, any input would be helpful. :frown:

It's probably not iodine but betadine (a mixture of iodine and povidone.) It's an antiseptic, and it's fairly nasty stuff. If you're worried, do another quick water change and you can dilute whatever you put in. I'd probably do the 'wait and see' method, because I'm lazy, but that's just me. If nothing is dead in the morning, you're golden.

for the record. i used to put iodine in my community tank when i had amanos.. 1 drop per gallon weekly to keep him happy when he molted.. no one suffered
