I bought an RO unit off craigslist for $50. Brand new in the box, but my guess is its been sitting in the box awhile.
Will anything be bad in this unit by just sitting not being used?
It has never had water through it and the membrane is in a plastic bag.

It should be no trouble at all. With any RO/DI unit you should discard the first 5 gal or so it produces.

Yep, directions say to pitch the first 10-12 because it contains the coating film on the RO membrane.
