So, bought a 75 gallon tank/stand/lights/filter from a guy I work with, fantastic deal and I couldn't say no. Set it up as a community low tech planted, and am tweaking it as I go.

Tank-
75 gallons, sand mixed with dirt substrate, I'll post a pic later, but the whole bottom when I look from underneath is one big dirt layer (I'm guessing from settling).

Light-
4 daylight 32w Fluorescent tubes on for 13 hrs a day

Filter-
Rena Filstar Large
Sponge filter

Plants
- amazon sword
- wisteria
- bacopa, both normal and carolina
- crypt wenditii green
- a red crypt
- dwarf sag
- american vals
- anubis, java fern, and christmas moss as 'floating' plants
- Downoi

Fish
- platies, tetras, barbs, corys, mollies, and rasboras.

looks good. I was imaging a nice large piece of wood in the right hand side of the tank but that's my opinion :)
good luck...
Thanks! I tend to weight the tanks away from the viewing area (in this case its in the corner of the living room. hence the wood on one side only. I'm hoping that the left side can fill in more and balance it out some. Maybe add some crypts under the sword behind the horizontal wood...

Can you post a picture of your light fixture I'm trying to build one for my 55 and sounds like yours minus two bulbs since your tank is slightly wider than a 55

When I build it I'll take pictures... but right now they are just sitting on blocks of wood above the tank lol. Nothing special.

Nice. That's what I'm thinking of doing for the time being. I have a 2 bulb t8 shop light I bought to hang above the tank. I'm assuming that's what you have going on

Yep. One AGA fixture, one shop light fixture. Nothing crazy. I am planning on building a hinged top to hide the glare, but it will be stupid simple.

I like it. I think the only thing I would change would be to scatter some darker pebbles all over the sand to break up the uniformity a little. maybe like some black gravel just drop it and where ever it lands it stays. Having such a uniform sand makes it seem unreal. other than that tiny change I think your tank is a beaut, I like the left to right scape. that sword is a monster!

Once it fills in I am hoping that the sand will be completely covered. If I were to have more exposed I would indeed be adding texture. On a side note, roots are through the 3" of substrate. Watching them grow across them bottom of them tank is quite interesting.

This is the roots from the large green crypt.
