So to make a long story short, I currently have an (almost) empty 55g and can't decide what to put in it. I was thinking of doing shrimp, but had a couple questions about it.

1)Is a 55g too big for a shrimp only tank?

2)I am running an emperor 400 HOB on it; should I keep that and just rig some sort of intake strainer, or should i ditch it and just get a couple sponge filters?

3) Are there any smaller fish (killis, neons, etc) that would be safe to add?

No fish but otos are really shrimp safe. I would personally do a canister and a large sponge filter. Many people have larger shrimp only tanks. I have a 48.8, I know dukendabears has a 55 oebt and Sean orhunterfisher has a 75 and 55 tb tank
Would I be alright using tap water in the tank? Out of the tap, PH is 7.1-7.6 depending on the season and TDS is usually steady around 350. I have access to RO water (tds reads 15) at work that I would use for top offs but I don't really want to buy an RO/DI unit for regular water changes.
