55 gallon LED ideas?

969 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  SemperFish
I currently have a coralife T-5NO fixture (6700K and colormax bulbs) and I have low light plants and some medium light plants that grow slow. It works for me since I don't have much time to spend using CO2 and dosing ferts regularly.

I want the shimmer of LED's, but I'm on a budget and don't want to spend a great deal of money. Should I get some LED fixture for just the aesthetic purpose and rely on my current lights for plant growth or go with all LED's?

Any suggestions or ideas welcome.

How much are you looking to spend? Your tank width is 48" correct? Is $70 too much?

Yes it's 48". I was thinking of spending no more than $100.
You could DIY your own LED fixture. I have my eyes on the Solderless Rapid LED kit. Only thing is, you have to hang it.
Led floodlights can sit on the top of a lid/grid. Many options it depends on how high you want your light. A few 10W or 20W led floodlights will work great.
I was going to suggest the 48" single bright from Beamswork for $70 but looks it it's not in stock anywhere. The alternative is Marineland single bright 48" but that's a bit more expensive. Ranging from $100 to $120 depending on the retailer but the upside is if you buy from Petco or Petsmart you can return it easily if you don't like the result.
Thanks for all the replies. I may have to do some research on the DIY LED's and see if that's something I would want.
