I didnt rinse the first time for my 10g and regret it. So far i've set up 2 more tanks and i've rinsed with good success. It is really light at first but after a few weeks it takes on water, dirt, etc and then becomes a real pleasure to plant in.

I am really glad to hear that, cause I am having a heck of a time trying to keep my plants down. But it's only been filled for less than a week.

Hi Jesstray,

For now, just plant your plants a little deeper than usual. That should help. I used to use Flourite which was heavier but I find the Soilmaster Select easier to work with. The Soilmaster Select has smaller and rounder particles than Flourite. However, flourite is also an excellent substrate, and for those looking for an even darker substrate than Soilmaster Select, Seachem is coming out with a black Flourite soon from a new site they are working.
