I have set up another 5.5 heavily planted tank with H.Polypserma carbet, Cabomba Australis, R. Indica, Vals of some sorta, H.Poly v.Sunset, and some other plant I can't remember (I'm not at home). I was wondering if this is big enough to have rcs breed in. I have a bunch of 10gls but they all have fish that can be potential preds, and I had set up this 5.5 as a species tank just for shrimp. Just wondering if this set up is big enough.
Absolutely. I started out with RCS in a planted 2.5. They did great, though I did notice that once it started to get overcrowded, they didn't grow as large. So just make sure if your population really takes off, you make sure you thin it out.
Don't worry about it cycling their bioload is next to nil.
If anything give it a "normal" 1-3 month grow in time and once you're ready to add shrimp the tank will be fine. Don't bother doing anything else.
If possible get mulm from one of your other tanks, or seed a sponge filter in another tank before you put this one together so you can put shrimp in instantly.
Thanks everyone. I've just had horrible luck with RCS. Well, not horrible, they did live for a long time, something of six months or so, but I never got a single berried female and I know I had a mix of males and females.
