I have a 6 foot 125 gallon tank (72" x 18" x 21") that is going to be a very low tech angelfish tank. It will only have a few swords and anubias. I am probably going to run a couple of 48" 2 bulb T8 fixtures in my hood (4 bulbs total). Probably 6500K bulbs.
I can't decide how to configure the lighting because I'm dealing with 4 foot fixtures on a 6 foot tank. I was thinking about using some 4' bulbs and some 2' bulbs, but I would like to keep it simple with just 4 bulbs instead of the 6-8 that I would end up with if I went with a couple 48" fixtures and a couple 24" fixtures.
I'm looking at 3 basic options.
1) 2 48” 2 bulb fixtures centered over tank
2) 2 48” 2 bulb fixtures staggered over tank
3) Take apart 2 48” 2 bulb fixtures and retrofit to stagger evenly over tank
All of these options will give higher light in the middle of the tank. Do you think that it will look off?
Am I on the right track with this much lighting? I like a fairly bright tank since I'm used to reef tanks, but I don't want to battle too much algae or deal with most of the issues that come with a high tech tank.
