I am looking to create my own DIY Planted Tank Light. Have read a lot of setups and forums but am not completely satisfied with the outcome. I would really like to mimic the Finnex Planted LED Light Fixture as it's slim, and puts out good light spectrum's but can't find any information or diagrams of this light and what is used in them.

My question: Has anyone replicated their led lights before and if so do you have a parts list & diagram to share?

This is how I'm setting up my 40B tank:

1) Will DIY a 3" Canopy and mounting the light to the inner top.

2) Substrate will be around 2 - 3" front - middle with the back being around 4" for background plants.

3) Rocks and Driftwood with Mosses & Anubias Nana, Petite.

4) Jungle Val in Background

5) Not sure which Carpet Plant Yet for foreground (opt to suggestions).

6) Middle - Amazon Swords & Cryptocoryne Wendtii Bronze.

7) The Stock will consist of Angles and mates.
Thank in Advanced!

It would be easiest using 3W diodes..

22-7000k, 12-660nm, 3 blue or royal blue.

These are hort. diodes and a WIDE spread angle..170 degrees..
not sure of the K temp of the whites but guesstimating between 6500-9000k

JUST an example..
4 LDD's for 5-8 each.
36V power supply @ 4A plus..
