36" t5 on 48" tank

I am setting up a 48x18x18 tank and have been thinking about lighting. I have thought about buying two Kessils or two xr15 but am having second thoughts.

I have a 6 bulb 36 inch ati t5 over my reef that I'm going to be taking down once I sell my fish. Could I use this over the new tank or will the difference in length cause plants grown in the sides of the tank to grow crooked.

You could use the light, but the ends of the tank are going to look very dim. To some people this doesn't matter and they plant low light plants there. For myself, I can't stand those dim ends and would upgrade the lighting one way or another, even if I had to use a dual T12 bulb shop light.

You could certainly give the fixture you have a try and see how you like it. If it works for you, you saved yourself a lot of money. If not, your no worse off.
Thank you for the response.

Thats what I figured. I don't think I'm going to be able to go with a shop light due to the appearance factor. I'm trying to convince my wife to let me put it upstairs in the living room so a bulky t5 fixture is a no go.
