hello. im looking to purchase lighting for a 100 gallon tank (72"x18"x18"). id like to get the shimmer and shadows of metal halide and was wondering how intense 3 x 70 watt hqi bulbs on a 72" tank would be. would you consider it moderate lighting? would it need co2?

How deep is the tank? Depending on how deep the tank is, and how high you hang the lights, you might need CO2. You might be able to get away with no CO2 if you have the lights maybe 20-24 inches above the surface of the water. It would look pretty nice, I think.

its 18" deep. i'll probably play around with the height. if i go co2 in the future and lower the lights, do you think i could keep any plant i want or would i need some kind of supplementation (t5no etc..)

I'm pretty sure that you could keep any plant that you want. Ferts would be necessary.
