Rinsing some sand, seems like the only thing that rinsed out was small sand stuck to air bubbles...

2 - 20 pound bags didn't seem to give more than about 2 to 2.5 inches, so I went and got a third bag.

Well, three bags was too much, now I need to dig some back out to get down to 3 inches deep. Also picked up a new light, hoping it's simple to setup.

Trying to separate the glass pieces from the lid hinge, but it's not coming apart like these used to, it's liked it's glued in there...

I might have to cut this right down the middle of the plastic hinge, and just use the plastic remaining as handles.

I was able to get the plastic scrapers held together under the hinge and then tap the base of the handles on the counter, this worked off the hinge end and then the rest peeled off

The gap between the glass lid panes is just slightly smaller than the thickness of the Fluval Plant 3.0 without the back lid spacer. I'm going to have some airline and small top off tubing coming in over the back lip, so I'll have to get creative here later.

Had to install the fluval app to an iPad because it was too small to use on my phone, initial settings are 50% intensity of what they had for the default "auto" setup

Great start. What are your plans for live stock? How do you like that light? I almost got one myself the other day
A few basic plants, those are coming up here soon. I do like the light so far, it's easy to setup/mount, and the app controls for dimming/sunrise/sunset are also easy to use.

Not much to do now but wait for the tank to fill up enough to check the tds, kh and gh.

The importance is tho, does it grow plants?
Hopefully, fluval seems to be selling it as a planted tank light.
So much for rinsing the sand, still have a decent amount of floating sand. About half full and tds is low (10 ppm), nothing in the KH or GH that API can measure.

Fish net worked for sinking the floating sand, added a surface skimmer sideways and put approx. 1 gr chunk of calcium carbonate in it, put the RODI feed into the filter outlet nozzle air intake

Oh, also added 15 ml of some old seachem stability I had from a previous tank

The tank was full last night around 9 PM, the tds was around 7 ppm and the KH still below 1; I added about 1/4 cup of calcium carbonate to the filter and let it run. Here we are this morning

Now the tds is reading 31 ppm. Decided to double the calcium carbonate, so used a bag and placed near a bubbler

Measured TDS around noon today at 41 ppm; then checked dKH and dGH and they are both finally measuring at 1 drop (second drop gets the color change)
I removed the surface skimmer and bag of calcium carbonate, and now there is just the bubbler

Decided to protect the light from bubble pop splashes with one of the glass pieces, water drops on it are making me think I may need to boost the light intensity a little to compensate. I'll wait a few days to mess with the light though...
