I use a single AHsupply 55watt PC over my 29 and can grow many plants. Carpets seem to suffer some though.
i don't have a hood over my tank, so i think retrofit is out. thanks, spypet for those link, they really helped.
get a glass cover or you can get 4 mounting legs and get a coralife freshwater 65w pc, i have one and can grow pretty much whatever i want!!

got mine from big als i think??? check them out there awesome! imo
yea, i think that i am going to go for something along those lines. i would go for the mounting legs, though. i like to look of an open top tank.

I'm in the same situation, also looking for lighting for a 29 gallon.
My question; all the glass canopies I've seen have a dark hinge, isn't that going to interfer with the lighting with that fixture? The only glass canopies I can find in Canada are the Perfecto ones (can't find the All-Glass ones here) and they only have about 4 inches of glass to work with on both sides of the hinge, whereas the coralife freshwater 65w pc needs 5 inches. Btw, an open tank is not an option for me.

Take a look here... http://www.outwatercatalogs.com/2006_master/lg_display.cfm?page_number=77&catalog=otm
You would want part number 108-640-CL. I wanted to give one of these a try, but they only sell 12 foot lengths, so I chickened out.
just wondering, why is an open top tank not an option? they are by far easier to work with, and the only drawback would be cats, kids, or jumping fish.

Does it matter why I don't want an open tank? I just want a glass canopy for my own personal reasons.
well ok then.

just asking :icon_eek:
i as debating getting the mounting loegs for my light, but i have discus and would hate to see one on the carpet after a long day at work.

like i said before the coralife fixture worke extremly well for me but i assume almost any 65w fixture would allow you to grow pretty much whatever you want.

also i have no problem growing my carpet plants. marselia minuta, e.tenellus micro leaf and broad leaf, and crypticorne parva.
yea, like i said . . . jumping fish could be a problem. especially if you have expensive ones like discus or flowerhorns.

i just can't wait until we move and i can convert my 29 into a planted tank.
