hi all,

well thanks to all of the help from people on this forum, I've finally been able to set up my co2 system on my 29 gallon tank. I've had this tank set up for about 5 years now, and just got into live plants about a year ago. After I watched my beautiful, big plants slowly wither to smaller plants without co2, and at the same time my dumb Eclipse 3 hood started leaking, I decided to get better lighting and co2 so my plants can finally flourish.

My ph before I set this up was 7.4 with a kh of 4. Now my ph is down to 6.6 which gives me a co2 level of about 30ppm, and my fish don't seem stressed.

My setup is:
Eheim 2213
Sunlight Supply 2x24 watt retrofit T5HO
5 lb co2 tank with Milwaukee MA957 regulator
DIY co2 diffuser - Hagen Elite Mini filter with co2 tubing put under impeller
Dosing with Seachem ferts

I am planning on getting the red sea reactor because the mini filter diffusor set up is pretty loud. That is the ticking noise you hear in the background of my below posted video. Also it creates millions of tiny co2 bubbles in the tank which doesn't look that pretty.

This is a video taken about an hour ago. My plants are pearling!! The 42 second mark is where you really see the pearling; most of it is underneath the leaves.

I also got a bulb of nymphaea rubra on ebay, it is in the back left corner right now. It already grew a 1/2 inch since I got it yesterday.

I will keep this updated throughout the coming weeks.

Just an update. I've had CO2 in my tank for just over a week now and I'm lovin it. No probs so far.. Just waiting for my sagittaria to fill out the back like it did when I first got the plant. :) Please don't mind all of my equipment in the background. Where can I buy black Eheim intake and output? The green is so ugly.

This first picture is the Nymphaea Rubra that I received in the mail a little more than a week ago. The first pic is up in my first post. It's grown quite a lot, but I can't wait for it to be huge. The baby tear is blocking it in the first pic, and I wasn't going to post it until I noticed the albino glowlight wanting some attention, and it made me laugh :)

take two :)

Little update.. things are going well. Can't wait for my sagittaria in the back to finally grow to the top of the tank. I now have a Red Sea Reactor 500 instead of the ghetto Eheim mini filter diffuser set up. One of my Christmas gifts from my mom will be the black Eheim intake and output tubes.

Any compliments or criticisms welcomed :)

Tank looks great! Seems like you are doing very well at keeping the plants healthy and algae at bay.

One suggestion I might have would be to add some height to the tank. Either with some taller plants or some sort of decorative item to do the job. Right now I find my eyes drawn to those green eheim tubes. I think with the addition of some black tubes and something a bit taller in the tank and you should be in good shape.

Good luck!

thank you! I am trying to get my Sagittaria in the back to grow to the top. When I got the plant it was all the way to the top, but due to inadequate light and co2 it shrunk to the bottom. :) It might take some time but I can already tell they have grown since I've changed the lighting and co2.

Another update! Got my Eheim black intake/output tubes and my Hydor inline heater.

Equipment:
Eheim 2213

5 lb co2 tank with Milwaukee MA957 regulator
Red Sea Reactor 500
Dosing with Seachem ferts

Plants:
Nymphaea Rubra (Red Water Lily)
Sagittaria Subulata (Dwarf Sagittaria)
Micranthemum umbrosum (Baby Tears)
Anubias Minima
Anubias Nana

Fish:
2 Albino Glowlight Tetras
2 Glowlight Tetras
2 Bloodfin Tetras
2 Harlequin Rasboras
1 Male Red Wag Swordtail
1 Male Painted Swordtail

I plan on filling out my schools and getting 6 cardinal tetras this week as well.

I think I need to do some trimming, everything is looking pretty messy.. Sagittaria is taking over.

Another update...

Equipment:
Eheim 2213
Sunlight Supply 2x24 watt retrofit T5HO
5 lb co2 tank with Milwaukee MA957 regulator
Red Sea Reactor 500
Dosing with Seachem ferts

Plants:
Nymphaea Rubra (Red Water Lily)
Sagittaria Subulata (Dwarf Sagittaria)
Micranthemum umbrosum (Baby Tears)
Echinodorus isthmicus (Dwarf Amazon Sword)
Anubias Minima
Anubias Nana

Fish:
2 Albino Glowlight Tetras
4 Glowlight Tetras
2 Bloodfin Tetras
5 Harlequin Rasboras
1 Male Red Wag Swordtail
1 Male Painted Swordtail
2 Female Painted Swordtails

I plan on exchanging my swordtails for some cardinal tetra this weekend, if my LFS is in stock.. maybe 10 of them?

This was the 1st time I've ever had to prune - the sagittaria was covering up my dwarf amazon sword. There are actually 3 in there.

The Anubias is flowering!! Red water lily is growing well.. can't wait for it to fill my left back corner.

QUESTION: My sagittaria is sending up runners where I don't want them. What do I do - just pull them out?

Tank's looking great! About the runners, I'd say wait for the new plants to root a little, and then snip them off. You can then re-plant them as you see fit.

well, I traded in the swordtails for 12 cardinal tetras. unfortunately the next day I started to see symptoms of ich on some of my cardinals... so I (stupidly) euthanized 4 of them because I didn't want it to spread to the rest of the tank. I'm dumb because it's going to spread anyway. Well, all of the cardinals have it now and I'm treating with Ich Attack. I'm on day 3 now and I'm seeing no improvement. :( But none of my old fish have it (yet) so that's good.

I also got 2 new plants - the scarlet temple in the back left, and the cardinal plant in front of my driftwood on the right.

QUESTION - What is the green hairy algae growing to the right of the picture of my baby tears? I ripped a bunch of it out.. hmm.

Here are some updated pix:

THings have gotten a little crazy, jungle-ish. I haven't updated in a long time. I have not been keeping up with pruning and I just did today, so the plants you see here need to be consistently pruned so that I don't chop off the top half of the plant that actually has nice growth (baby tears and nymphea rubra specifically).

Haven't updated this in a really long time. I've gotten lazy with the tank.. have only been changing water/fertilizing about once a month, if that. Things still look ok but not as great as they should. It pretty much had no swimming room for the fish so I pruned it back a LOT. Had 2 plastic bags filled with plants. I need to trim back a ton of aerial roots too so you can actually see some driftwood.
