I just started a 25 gallon planted, and so far so good. I have up to 130 watts if I need them, and i am running one of those nutrafin CO2 systems in it.

I have various tetras in there right now, but im not so much a fan. I was hoping to find a couple (or more) small cichlids or cichlid look alike fish to use in the tank. What kinds of fish should I look out for?

Apistogramma cichlids should be good in the tank. There are many pretty species available.

What kind of light fixture do you have over the tank? (Though no matter what kind of fixture it is, 130 watts would be serious overkill...)

Rams, Kribs, and Apistos are all good small plant-friendly cichlids.

Its a 24 in coralife. Im not using both bulbs right now, 130 watts is indeed overkill.
