Hi guys,

I have wanted to start a high light tank for a while (i've always gone the low tech route)

I have a 24X20X20 and i've seen a great value 140watt metal halide 20000k with T5 extra fluoros setup for sale,

would this be over kill on my 40gallon tank? or should I go with a different alternative? let me know tech gurus!

How much is the setup? I'm looking for one myself.

I'd go for it...depending on how much the T5s are, that's only a little over 3 WPG. If you have proper CO2 and fertilization, it'll be manageble.

20,000K will be too blue for most planted tanks, so you might have to switch the bulbs out.

If you are looking for cheap MH bulbs, Catalina has a bunch - nothing fancy. I've been using them for a few years and they work fine on my planted tanks. I use the pricier bulbs on my reef tanks. Not sure if they ship to you though.
