22 Long Iwagumi - "Dedication"

This is my first attempt a "high-tech" tank. Love the balance of art and technology with the Iwagumi style layouts. I am eager to learn from you all, feel free to comment and critique! Thanks for looking!

Edit: After cracking the first tank due to a poor stand design I went out and got a custom tempered glass base and two new tanks.

Tank1
Mr. Aqua 22 Gallon Long Rimless 36x12x12

Substrate: ADA Amazonia Light and ADA Amazonia Light Powder

Dosing: TBD. GLA or ADA.

Heater: Hydor 200w in line heater

CO2: 5lb with CO2 Art Advance Professional Aquarium Dual Stage Regulator, U.P. Aqua Inline Co2 Atomizer System

Lighting: 36" Finnex Planted + 24/7

Tank 2
Mr. Aqua 7.5 Gallon 30cm Cube Rimless

Substrate: ADA Amazonia Light and ADA Amazonia Light Powder

Dosing: TBD

Filter: Eheim 2213 with lily pipe

Heater: Hydor 200w in line heater

CO2: 5lb with CO2 Art Advance Professional Aquarium Dual Stage Regulator, U.P. Aqua Inline Co2 Atomizer System

Lighting: Chihiros 301

looking good. i like the iwagumi lay out. looks like all your tech is set up for success. gl with the dry start. keep a tiny opening (size of a coin or so) so mold wont build up in there. squirt water mixed with a litle bit of liquid fertz for a slight boost in dry start. let it fully air out once a day to "water change" the co2 and o2 in there. give the plants on top of the hill extra water because it will eventually run down to balance out the growth between top and bottom. keep us updated on your growth!

Thank you for the kind words! Will be sure to follow your advice on dry start. Also way under dosing some excel to help keep the mold out. Will be sure to keep this journal updated!

I like the idea of making the outside of the tank to visualize golden ratios... I might try that next time... Though I think a dry erase markers or string tapped on would be more to my liking

Excel will burn and kill your plants if applied to the leaves- even if under dosed. This is literally how I get rid of duckweed and it's very effective, so be careful!

1 Month Update:

Couldn't stomach the DSM after 2-3 weeks after seeing so much die off so I flooded the tank, turned the lights down from 10hrs to 7hrs, and pumped co2 at 3-4bps. I also planted (4) more cups of monte carlo and 1 more cup of alternanthera reineckii "Mini" and threw in some floating dwarf water lettuce.

Well, my tank cracked due to a hasty decision to use particle board as my base for the tank. After a couple months of water changes the board finally absorbed enough water to become canoe shaped and the tank couldn't handle the stress placed on the corners.

I ordered custom 1/2" thick tempered glass to use as the base so that I don't have any water absorption issues going forward. Will update more when I get the replacement tank and everything setup and ready to scape.

That's not good to hear! Scape was looking awesome. But I'm sure you can come back with something even better in the future.
Would a yoga mat under the tank fix problems of water spillage

I use yoga mats under my rimless tanks I heard it helps take up any unlevel stuff

I'm not going to accept anything but perfection moving forward with this setup. I ordered the exact Mr. Aqua tank mat for this tank and the custom glass which won't absorb any water. I was inspired to go this direction after seeing the glass bookshelf of aquariums post.
