The very front piece with the exposed raw end should go, after that i'm not sure. Depends on what you had envisioned to start with.

its gone it bothered me too. As far as plants go I was wanting anubias, needle leaf java fern, rotala green narrow. and some mosses and i havent decided on a carpet plant. For fish I was hoping a pair of angels and some neons and some snowball shrimp
Hope that gives you and idea of what im going for .
Those rocks will be gone soon I plan on doing mts capped with black colored quartz

That set up looks pretty good to me. Get that narrow leave int the back and the anubias in the front and you're peachy. I'd ad a bunch of small rocks though just infront of the driftwood and put the anubias on those to fill in. Pour some substrate amongst it too to take away the raw edges of the rocks/wood.

I think you have a good start there. I am curious as to what lighting you are going to use. With a 20h it is deeper than most tanks and it takes more light to reach the bottom. If I do scape one of my 20h, I will use mainly low light plants with regular gravel and seachum root tabs. I think you have been getting some good advice allready. Are you planning a low tech tank, or a high tech with co2?

You can use plain quartz sand for a substrate, but having some nutrients in the substrate is always a good idea. I would use the MTS since you already did the work for it. Most of your plants don't send much in the way of roots into the substrate, but the rotala does, and the nutrients will be helpful for it. Also, you may decide later to use some crypts, which do very well in lower light tanks, and the MTS will help them a lot.

I haven't used rotala so I can't speak for it. Like hoppy said, the MTS will help any plant you put in there, or if you decide to keep it like it is, just add root tabs to the gravel. I think crypts would be a good addition as far as plants go. I think all the other plants will work in this setup. Not sure what you could use for a carpet plant.
