Hello,

I'm currently in the midst of aquascaping a densely planted 10g tank and I'd like to get some advice on my future stock list. This will be my first attempt at a brackish tank, though I intend to keep it at a low salinity, roughly 1.002-1.003 SG.

My original intention was to keep:
Gertrudae Rainbowfish x6
Bumblebee Goby x6

Can I get some opinions on the addition of a Peacock Gudgeon (m/f) pair? I've read that they do as well in low salinity as freshwater, but I've never personally kept them before.

Will this leave my tank overstocked? I know that smaller tanks are more prone to chemical fluctuations and biological fragility. Any advice you can offer for a brackish tank beginner would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I didn't know Gertrudae's were brackish fish and peacock gudgeon's are really freshwater fish too. I don't know how the would do with an SG that low though.

I can't really think of anything that works in a 10 gallon brackish tank other than bumblebee gobies and mollys or guppies.

If you're looking to add some plants to your brackish tank, there are actually several that tolerate low salinity environments (about 1.005 SG or less). Anubias, anacharis, cabomba, vals, water sprite, hornwort, crypts, sagittaria, java fern/moss and some forms of hair grass will work quite well.

If you want something a little unusual, a ten gallon is the perfect size for a pair of betta mahachaiensis. They are the world's only exclusively brackish betta and would appreciate the salt content, and a male mahachaiensis in breeding condition is among the most spectacular fish in existence in my opinion.
