100% diffusion not a good thing...

I have a medium sized tank on 1-2bps going straight into my eheim canister. Within 30minutes the tank is at 35ppm and would move to catastrophic levels if I were to keep it on. Do I need a method that is worse at diffusing co2?

No, thats perfect diffusion. Reduce your bubble count. It will save you alot in the lenth of time between refills as well.
my bps will end up being around 1 every 20-30 seconds
It doesnt seem likely that that you can reach catastrophic leves of co2 with 1-2 bps. How do you know that you have 35 ppm?
I know it doesn't seem right....my drop checker never turns blue anymore (I have changed the 4dkh several times because I didn't believe it), did online calculation tables, and like clockwork after the solenoid clicks 30minutes later every single one of my fish are gasping.

ph is 6.7-6.8
kh is 7
ok so the needle valve is all the way in so that I get a bubble around every 15 seconds....

the tank is only 16 gallons but this feels weird, anyone had this experience using a canister to diffuse?
Why did you have to go from 1bps all the way down to .1bps? No way to be in the middle somewhere? What is the pressure set at?

I say go with whatever gets you in a good range - at least you won't have to fill your CO2 too often :)
The ph/KH calculation is not accurate at all. There are tons of other buffers that could be causing those two readings to be off.

If I were you I would just adjust your bubble rate in small increments over the day untill you either get a drop checker the color you want (in my case mt dew yellow) or you start to see your fish gasping at the surface. In the latter case you just turn it back a nit from there.

Remember though, drop checkers can take a hour or longer to properly communicate the proper co2 levels in the tank.

On my 10g I have 7 bs every 10 seconds and the DC turns yellow green in about 5 hrs. Fish an rcs are doing fine.
Why would it become catastrophic? Your plants will use that co2, it isn't going to just keep accumulating. It gets used as you inject it.
