  1. Shrimp & Other Invertebrates
As the title states, I am thinking of adding 1 MTS to my 5 gallon. It is decently planted with: Monte Carlo Dwarf Hair grass Vallisneria Nano Ludwigia Natans Rotala Rotundifolia Alternanthera Reineckii Mini Sagitattaria However, I already have 3 nerite snails and about 10 RCS shrimp. I...
  2. Low Tech Forum
5 months into my 120cm long & shallow low tech planted, planaria seems to be picking up a bit. it's currently not a huge problem and i've been feeding 20% less than usual for a months now. but i'd still like to take preemptive measure if possible. since they bury themselves in the substrate most...
  3. Aquascaping
Hey folks, first post here. I got a 25 gallon 18 inch marineland cube, already hardscaped with around 28 lbs of granite (pics attached). I have the larger rocks raised up two inches by laying a few layers of cut ceiling egg-crate (really cheap alternative to gain some height btw). Tank will...

I know Walstad mentions using black worms in her book. I've been reading mixed reviews. They are hard to find here and I don't wanna make the effort to get some just to have the tank go south. They seem like a better option than MTS for stirring the soil, mostly bc almost every fish will eat...
  5. Shrimp & Other Invertebrates
My MTS have been doing this weird thing recently where they climb up to the waterline, then float around on the underside of the water. My airpump creates a current, so they tend to get spun around too. It's really funny. Bump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4LVXCtOFjA it looks something...

  6. Substrate
Should I worry about churning the sand in my tank? It's about 2 inches of inert black sand covered in Dwarf Hair Grass and Pearl Weed. Almost the entire bottom is covered in plants. Should I bother trying to add something like MTS into the tank?
  7. Shrimp & Other Invertebrates
I am considering adding MTS to my shrimp tank. It's a step to consider well as once you add one of them, you have them for good. :) Obviously, I hope to keep their population down by not overfeeding. In fact, they might be a perfect indicator of a balanced tank. Too many MTS = you got some...

  8. General Planted Tank Discussion
Hi. Malay Trumpet Snails (MTS). Is anyone familiar with these? My MTS are on the gravel surface, on leaves, and on the glass. During the daytime. There are quite a few in the tank now - I'd say 10 or 15, maybe more. If they are running short on food, I need to know how to feed them -...
