I've got a 20 gallon and I'm going to make it high tech (this is my first time). I want to dry start some Monte Carlo, S. Repens, and Hygrophila Pinnatifida (amount in that order), but I'm also worried about algae popping up, so I'm torn on whether to dry start or cycle first. Can they be done...
So I was kind of thinking about growing and perhaps selling my own Christmas Moss, does anyone know the proper way to propagate this moss?
I thought about filling the bottom of a tote with worm castings, placing the moss on top, and then covering the tote with plastic wrap with the daily...
I'm in day eight of my dry start and I'm noticing since day six that my Helanthium 'quadricostatus' appears more yellow than the other plants, and more yellow today than it did on the day of planting. I also happen to still have a tissue culture cup of this plant left over...
Hi all –[censored]
It's my first planted tank (I used to keep fish ~15 years ago, and am just getting back into it) and I'm about 5 weeks into a dry start on a 60cm X 20cm x 20cm tank. I have a fairly intense lighting set-up and will be using CO2. So far, everything is going pretty well.
Been out of the hobby for a while now and got bitten by the bug again, so here goes. Dry starting the plants with a 12 hour photoperiod.
Tank: ADA 30C - 30x30x30 cm
Substrate: ADA Aquasoil Amazonia
Hardscape: Seiryu Stone
Light: Finnex FugeRay Planted+ (12")
I was thinking about going with the dry start method for 3 or 4 weeks on my new 125 gallon tank, but it seems most journals I've seen are for much smaller tanks, more like 10 or 20 gallons, and a 55 that didn't go well.
Is there something about the dry start method that makes it unsuitable for...
Hi all, I'm in the process of setting up a new planted and would kindly like some input on these two carpetting plants: I'm aware that HC requires both high light and CO2, but haven't actually found much from online research on glossostigma elatinoides (everything seems to be outdated info from...
Hi all- so my first planted tank I decided to do a dry start, not only because I have the extra time but to save a bit on start up costs (and because experiments are fun!)
So I decided to start with some dwarf baby tears, monte carlo, and hair grass to see how they would grow. I'm on about week...
I'm relatively new to this community but I wanted to chronicle my journey of starting my first tank.
I started researching planted aquariums about a month ago and finally decided to get started this past weekend. Getting started can be quite complicated but if you think about it, the aquarium...
Redoing my tank and need a lots of colorful emersed plant varieties. The list below are plants that are recommended to me but if you have something else just as nice, I want it too! :hihi:
The red stem, green leaf creeping...
My 8 gallon rimless. It's been through two stages. The first attempt crashed when I used the wrong dry ferts (bought from a hydroponics store, who apparently don't use the same potassium nitrate as we do). Second attempt is under way. Changed the layout a bit due to flaws in the layout the first...
I have a 15 gallon setup here. I am using eco complete substrate here, 36 watt light on for 8.5 hrs daily on timer with a fan to keep the light running cool. I have the tank covered in saran wrap except for when i mist my plants with plain water 2x daily. The plants are very healthy and look...
Tank: Mr. Aqua 12 Gallon Long
Lighting: Current Satellite LED+ 36 in.
Hardscape: Ryouh Stone
Substrate: ADA Amazonia Powder
Flora: HC and staurogyne repens at the moment. After I flood the tank this weekend, I'll plant blyxa japonica in the gaps behind behind the rock groups.
Hi there! I've been browsing TPT for a while as I've been setting up my first planted tank, and I've finally made an account, with my first question;
I'm currently setting up a 29G tall planted tank, and, after waiting ages for my LFS to get some driftwood in, I'm finally ready to start...
As the title asks, I was wondering if anyone has used the dry-start method with Marsilea minuta. I'm planning a slow-growing 80g tank using anubias, java fern, bolbitis, and the likes. I'm also trying out MTS, with kitty litter and eco-complete.
I was just wondering if anyone has had experience...
I didn't know where to post this so I just figured it could go here. I did a fluval chi dry start with some stuff I had laying around, spent about 7 or so weeks letting it grow in and filled it. Here's a slideshow, hope you enjoy.
I've already ordered everything for the tank itself, but I want to make sure that the flora & fauna I intend to plant and stock will be ok for my setup. (This is my first planted tank--the one I was intending to buy last year went out of stock for ages, and I decided to wait until after the...
I started my dry start tank almost a week ago and now I noticed that I have the spice web like thingy on my rotala and it is dying. What is it? What can I do to rid it? Will it spread?
Here is a picture of how it looks like. It is kinda hard to see.
