Elite Mini submersible filter - single stage. This filter is great, very powerful though for such a small tank.
I read a lot of other reviews that people did not like it for that reason. I believe I solved this problem by taking the filter media from inside the filter and placing it over the outflow. This really helps to diffuse it. I then took the filter sponge from my 12 gallon HOB filter and cut a small piece off and placed it in the Elite Mini.
I couldn't be happier. The filter is not causing a Maelstrom anymore, the shrimp are happy, swimming around a lot, and climbing on the filter sponge, playing in the bubbles.
I had no choice but to plug the filter into the same light timer for my 12 gallon, however, this seems to be ok and all shrimp have made it through the past couple nights without showing distress.
ADA Afrikana powder aquasoil - left overs from my 12 Gallon setup
Anubias nana 'petite', Fissidens fontanus
3 red cherry shrimp - I think it's 2 female, 1 male.
I want to set this tank up as a safe breeding tank for shrimp. Plus I am using it as a bit of an experiment. It cost $17 for the filter and the rest I had or found.
