Upgraded to Reinforced tubing and have 1 fluval 107 cycling. Am planning on putting my other 107 next to it but thinking about just building my own canister filter as the 107s clog easily.
Ista 300w inline heater set at 84F or 30C to boost beneficial bacteria startup. Plugged into Inkbird temp controller. Will add a second heater for redundancy.
I removed the black sponge from the bottom of the 2nd chamber it is too fine and causes clogs. Put a half inch of filter floss and bio balls. The top holder is filled with ceramic rings and balls. Make sure not to overfill your filters it's the main cause for clogging and the primer goes out very fast on the 107s so to prime you have to disconnect the outlet from the tube and manually fill it. I have 4 inches from the wall to the stand and it is not difficult but frustrating to have to manually fill the intake tube every other week.
I also removed the built in check valve from the 107s intake as it clogs easily and heavily restricts flow.
For $100 they are not worth it at all. Idk about a $400 fx6 but no thanks I'd rather make one out of a 5 gal bucket. My LFS has sunsun products which are cheaper and some models have uv sanitizers built in.
