Sorry for the late reply been going to school. I have used both the thick clear and ribbed houses as both seem to work great with the thin-ribbed being more susceptible to cat claws lol. As far as O-rings, other then making sure the valve O-rings are the right-size so as not to cause damage from over stressing is recommended. As far as the hoses fitting and sealing over the port and U-tank plastic fittings, I use nothing more then a clamp (no O-ring). Batting is made up of layers like layers on a bed (sheets, blanket's, exc). All you need do is cut to size then peel them apart to make 2 or 3 fitted blankets for multipal uses, I prefer no more then 1/4" thickness max. Hope that helps & God Bless.

Hi Gunner - I was seeking more filtration or powerhead for my oscar tank (75 gal - 2 tiger oscars and rena xp3 filter) I saw your CFS 500 mod and bought one thinking it would be the best of both worlds. I got the version 2 Odyssea CFS 500 with power cord coming out the lid - I also got very light weight black ribbed hoses instead of the 1 inch I.D. green vinyl hoses. As your mod states the ends of the output/input tubes can be cut off and o-rings removed if using the vinyl hose(1" inner diameter?). Should I leave the o-rings on if I use the ribbed hoses (like fx5 hoses) or should I buy 1" inner diameter hoses (black vs. clear?). I'm doing the mod you posted but want to know what type of poly batting? I bid on some traditional 100% polyester batting. Would also like more detail regarding how/why (how to cut and where to place, etc.) on the mod for the blue pad and why the batting in the middle after splitting it in two. (you no longer will be adding a basket?)
