Thanks so much for the update! Sad to hear you're not in the area anymore. I purchased a new tank yesterday and am going to start breeding blue bolt shrimp. I'll have to get in touch with Rey and the rest of the AAPE people. Take care!

Hey! I met you like 7 years ago at an AAPE meeting and bought some ohko stone from you. I recall you used to work at Aquatouch. I am wanting to get back in to the hobby and looked them up today. Are they closed now???? That can't be! They were the best in town. If you know of any other places open, would you mind sharing? Thanks so much!

Hey, somebody who keeps oil cats! I've been looking for someone who keeps these guys.
Question: do you think one of those could eat chili rasboras? I had some rasboras vanish after I added the oil cats... One is still left, but he's the biggest one.

Ever fed mosquito larvae to these guys? If not, I highly suggest you try it. Stick a bucket of water outside for about a week, then net out the 'skeeter larvae and dump them in. No washing needed, they're clean things. No spines, no legs, no shells, survive if not eaten... Awesome food.
I once caught an oil cat partly in a net and offered him a bunch of wrigglers so he could get dibs before the others. He ate two dozen in about seven seconds and then looked like he ate an entire pea. Freaked me out a bit.

I saw something tonight I've never seen before. Today I got two new ones to replace two that jumped and died (which may have been related to the fighting...) Well ate least I got a female, so I can potentially breed them in the future. Well the new male was doing this odd sort of dance around and with the female. It was swimming against its side and in circles too. Of course this could just be new tank behavior, but I thought it was interesting.

BTW, can I have contact info of that breeder you mentioned?

So I witnessed two fights within the last week between the two big male honeycombs. Their homes have always been right next to eachother, but now I think they can't live together any longer. The second fight happened (which just happened a few minutes ago now) for an obvious reason: food. The bloodworms I put in tonight stuck in a clump, and one of them took the whole thing. The other one, ignoring all the free ones around him, thought "hey, I want that food" and went after it. They both tumbled around a bit, then stopped. However, even (right) after all the food was gone, they had a fight. It looked the same as before: they twirled around trying to bite each other, and sometimes did get a hold of the other's jaw. When not in combat, they had their spines all the way out and looked very intense. Now one of them is exile. One might have to find a new place soon. Ever see anything like that?

I think I actually have Centromochlus altae, not perugiae. I was doing some research, and they say that altae is the "big spot" variety. I actually like that pattern better than a lot of perugaie that I've seen. :p

Thanks, they're so easy to photograph when they stay still, which they do for most of the day. I've found that they go NUTS over bloodworms, and all 3 will come out to eat at any time. They're such pigs and they always end up with fat bellies!

Note: I will be in Costa Rica from July 3 - July 18, and probably won't be able to access TPT while i'm there.

yeah i definitely have not seen those in my area at all. it would be an interesting project to try though. so far, one of my honeycombs is female for certain. she popped out of the log in broad daylight which is strange. im thinking its cuz she isnt getting enough food. tonight ill be sure to be a little more generous on the midnight snack for these guys. she isnt grossly think but not as healthy fat as the other 2.
