Backup filter for 135gal.

Hi,

It just occurred to me that getting parts for my Hydor 600 is a real PITA and I should have a back up if it were to go down. Ideally a Hydor 600 power head- but other than that a single HOB or couple of internal air driven foam- what do you think?

Unless your tank is overstocked your fish should survive just fine for a few days while a new filter gets sent from amazon or similar. If your tank is overstocked an air stone will be fine for oxygen. Personally I can't imagine having a few hundred dollars of filter sitting around not doing anything.

I hope you have more than one filter on the 135 gallon tank anyway. The Hydor 600 is only 345 gph and you should have about 1000 gph for that big a tank.

Agree. Anything 75g or higher and I'd definitely opt for two canisters or a HOB and a canister.

Yes a FX6 will be fine as long as you don't use inefficient media. You should use efficient media that allows full water flow through all the media.

I like this guy, and he gave advice on the Hydor. Although I don't use his ceramics.
