I am looking to replace a HOB finnex canister which I find too hard to clean filtration for. Want to give up HOB and go under cabinet for easier access. Any suggestions? Fluval 207 perhaps or the Hydor 150?
I like Eheim classics. I had a 2211 (the $88 one on Encode's post) on my 20L. I would actually recommend the next size up (2213). My one complaint with the 2211 was the output tube size was smaller than the intake tube, and I found it hard to connect it to my UV because of that.
I've had good luck with my Fluval 206. After 5 years constant use still going strong (and quiet). I'm not great about maintenance so it often goes much longer than it should between cleanings. Think I've replaced the main o-ring seal 3 times and that's it. I have the kit to replace the impeller assembly but haven't needed it.
Haven't had my hands on the x07 models, but they look very similar to the x06 with a few improvements.
Funny you say that, I also have a Tidal 55 going as a supplement to my Fluval 206. Use it for the skimming action and for easy to change fine polishing pad.
I've found the Tidal 55 to be high quality as well. Think mine is at about 3yrs and haven't had issues or needed to replace anything. Very quiet.
Thanks everyone. The tidal 55 is an HOB right? I am looking for a very easy change (but highly effective and durable) below-the-tank canister. Need to connect to my co2 inline aerator. Preferably with adjustable flow. I think all paths seem to lead to eheim v fluval but welcome any additional suggestions! Will probably decide this weekend. Looking forward to not climbing on top of my tank every water change to remove and disassemble my HOB Canister for cleaning!
Most filters are pretty good these days. The tubing on the Eheim is more universal and generally easier to connect online accessories like co2, heaters, lily pipes, etc. Really can't go wrong with an Eheim. For a 20G a 2213 or 2215 would work. You can adjust the flow from the output side.
Thanks. Seems like the Eheim is not flow adjustable which is an issue possibly. It does have a spray bar (which I had gone with after found shrimp crawling up my outtake tube). If I go with the Fluval it seems like I have to buy some adapters and hose clamps to deal with the ribbed hosing in order to connect to my CO2 diffuser.....decisions decisions....thanks
The eheim I mentioned has quick-disconnects and can be adjusted on the output side without issue. If you go with a properly sized filter you really don't need to worry about adjusting flow that much.
I think you are going to be very happy with your Eheim filter. I have an Eheim that has been running on a 10 gallon tank for most of the last ten years. It's a bit noisy, now, but, except when I broke a part by ignorantly applying too much force to a part without doing any research first, it has been a completely reliable workhorse. And it was easy to google up a replacement for the part I broke. Not cheap, but easy.
I run a Fluval 207 on a UNS 60u, it is flow adjustable and I am really pleased with it. Even the plastic is real high quality, I like pre-filter. I gradually moving over to Fluval for all of my filters.
I have the Eheim 2215 on my 16 gallon community tank. Someone on this forum suggested that size for mine. I solved the flow by enlarging the holes on my spray bar. I love it.
Bit late but zoomed has a small canister filter that has flow adjustment. It is pretty small and expensive for what it is - no clue how it compares to the smaller eheim. I've had one running for about a year now without any issues. A lot of people complain about removing the lid - i found that aspect trivial but you have to take a few seconds to understand how the clips work. If you force the clips you can break them so never force them.

I have a pair of eheim 2217 and i have mix feelings about them. They clog pretty easily and take a bit of work to get them cleaned out to get decent flow.
