Used filter, a death trap?

Hello,

Following the setup of a new 17 gallon tank i bought a used eheim classic 350, 2215. I don’t know if it is the wear and tear but i am recording a gph of about 85. Is that a normal effective gph for that filter? They advertise about 200 gph for that model. Or is something wrong? If so can it be fixed?

Should i just buy a new? Biomaster 350 would that be better?

I know i am cycling 5x/hour but i feel like this is on the low end of what i would like to have.

Thank you

Well the gph for all filters is with no media, no head height and no hoses at all. Just the pump itself. Now add in all your media baskets, media, floss, hose lengths, hose bends and turns you lose 50-60% of your pump volume. This assuming your impeller is in good working order. So you are right on track.

For your 17 gallon tank, you are fine.
