Question Square tank as planted tank? Photos?

Hi there!

I see a few names I recognize. I have been out of the hobby, and am coming back. I'm looking at a 150 gallon tank (used). The dimensions are 37 L X 38 W X 24 H. I may have the first 2 numbers reversed.

So, do I want a square-ish tank? Or is it better to have long/narrow? If you have a square tank, may I see photos?

I tell you, one thing that excites me about this one is the 24" height -- I'm 5'3" and planting in my 90 gallons was always a challenge. I've also had 125 gallons, and many smaller tanks.

Welcome back to the hobby! I have a pair of Hagen Osaka cubes, though they aren't truly cubes at 24x18x24" tall. I like the tanks a lot, but finding hardscape tall enough to fill them out was a bit of a challenge. And once tall hardscape is in and planted, getting circulation isn't as easy as in a rectangle. Haven't photoed them in a couple of months, they've come along quite a bit since these were taken.

Thank you! I hadn't thought about circulation issues.

Your tanks look good.

Not a cube, but I had a 92 corner tank. It was a quarter cylinder with a 34" radius and 24" deep. If you are planning to put it in a corner, you can aquascape from the back corner out. It was always fun to try to set it up as 2 different scapes, one from the right and one from the left. I thought it was kind of neat. The depth front to back is different too. I eventually sold that setup for a bigger rectangular setup to go onto a wall rather than a corner.
