Problems with RO Buddie - need help

I just bought one of these units and I cannot wrench down the membrane cap to full tightness no matter how hard I try. I’m scared to use vice grips or clamps for fear of breaking the plastic. The cylinder shape makes it really hard to get the grip necessary to hold out against the wrench on the cap. Anyone have any advice?

Is the seal pinching? Is the cap cross threaded? Photo?

If there is a rubbery/plastic seal, it will often help to lube things just a bit. One of the handy items which I keep for all kinds of lube around the tanks is petroleum jelly. It often sends shock waves out among those who are somewhat new to the game when I even mention "petroleum" but that is because they are not thinking very deep!
Yes it is from the petroleum industry but it has been processed and like plastic, which is also an oil product it is safe.
So I smear on just a tiny bit of the cheap type that has no flavor or scent added, like the Wal-mart brand "Equate" and then rub off about all off so that it just leaves a filn which makes most anything slide better. Works really good on anything around the tank like O-rings or the levers on canister filters to cut down on wearing an the odds of breaking something.
Also if it something that you need open or have other uses, there is a really good item for gripping weird shaped things that we don't want to use metal on. Things like jars or the shower head?
Might want to look into one of these as a big help when hands don't quite get it:
