Filters - API or Penn Plax

Hey all...so I'm upgrading my 75 gallon freshwater planted to a 125 in about a week. Currently, I have 2 Penn Plax Cascade 1000s; the 125 is going to be coming with 2 API Filstar XP-Ls.

I've tried doing some research online as to which is best, but there's a lot to take in. I've read the APIs don't have as much power, but are easy to clean and fairly dependable. Im used to my cascades, but they are a pain to clean.

I'm just looking for some opinions on what others think would be best. The 125 has a 6 ft LED, and will be low tech planted with schooling tetras, rasboras, some shrimp, plecos and snails.

Thanks in advance!

I did some research for you, it seems the penn plax has issues with the water running around the filter basket, where the api one has issues with leaks where the power cord is.

Honestly sometimes it pays to look at negative reviews of a product on Amazon. Yes every product has its flaws, but if you get many bad reviews on the same product about the same thing, then its probably true.

Edit: I also seem to see a trend in Fluval's 7th gen canister filters having much better reviews. Maybe they are worth looking into?

My go-to is actually to read bad reviews lol. Unfortunately, right now I just won't have the funds to replace either until way down the line, so I have to pick between the 2. I'm terrified of leaks, but I can see how the Penn-plax could ha e issues with not working properly. The person I'm buying from reported no issues with the APIs.
