API/Rena Canister Filter XL O-Ring Replacement

Hi Guys,

My API canister filter O ring just snapped. I am trying all over the internet to find one, but every where it is out of stock.
Has any body tried to replace these with Off the shelf gasket/O-Rings at the hardware store and did that work?

Also, if so could you please help me in telling the diameter/thickness of the O-Ring.

Thank you

I notice on the Rena Website you would have to relace the motor along with the O ring for a cost of $129, about what I paid for my entire filter brand new.

How big is the O-ring?

Do you have a fastenal near you? They have a much larger selection of o-rings then your standard hardware store. If you can get measurements and match it up you should be able to find a replacement as long as its not some rare size.

On another forum someone had problems with an API Rena filter and a responding member said he "made my own gasket by cutting up a bicycle inner tube. Once layed flat u can cut out a simple piece using simple scissors. I used the old piece as a stencil"

The OP of the question followed the above instructions and said it worked great.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not since I'm not familiar with the o-ring/gasket in question.

Did you try reaching out to API? They might be able to direct you to a replacement ring.
