Heater in OASE 350 and BB?
So was thinking of adding this to the spirited discussion about beneficial bacteria and biomedia but figured would not try and derail that thread as its pretty interesting as is.
There are a few canister filters with built in heaters, people plum them inline, and overall it seems to work well. My question is how does the heater in close proximity to the filters internals effect the bacteria colonies?
From what little I have been able to find it seems that theoretically not much grows on the heaters due to the increase in temps obviously. Does anyone have any type of knowledge (or guess) at what the effective radius from the heater is on how it interacts with the BB. Basically is the water flow enough to keep the temperature in spec essentially inside the canister filter or by running the heater in the filter are we basically making part of our filter dead in terms of BB?
I like the design of the heater placement in the canister and was thinking of adding it to mine (I bought the non thermo version) as I dont care for having the heater in the aquarium if I can prevent it.
Thanks for any input.
