CO2 always at least 1 point lower than tap?

I've tested my tank with drop tests and a cheap pH pen. According to those my tap water is 7.5 pH. I have quite a lot of aquasoil, some driftwood and seiryu stone in the aquarium. Because of mostly the aqua soil I believe my pH is lowered.

I'm trying to figure out my CO2 levels. I even bought a CO2 test kit but the results it gives are rubbish (claiming +40 ppm CO2 after water change). My drop checker is always green, or lime green, but never yellow.

Before CO2 is on, my pH is at 6.6 so almost 1 point lower than tap - does this mean I should add CO2 to drop it to 5.6 to get 30 ppm? That seems a bit crazy, since according to the old tables with my KH (2 from tap, 3 in tank) and pH 6.2 during injection it would mean I already have close to 60 ppm CO2. The drop checker color is also quite close to turning yellow. Shrimp in the tank, so need to pay attention.

120 liters, EI & CO2 and medium lights.

Sounds like your where you should be, even more toward the upper-end. Use the ph change and drop checker, don't worry about the c02 tables. Two many variables affect it. In my tank with seiryu stone the table tells me I have 80ppm, without the stone I would only have 20 based on the KH change.

Alright, thanks! Sometimes it's hard to figure out what people mean with the relative 1 point drop. Drop checker is yellow, fish and shrimp are still active and hanging out where they are supposed to be so I guess I'll leave CO2 be like it is for a couple weeks and see where that gets me.
