Fluval fx6 filtration media for planted tank

Hey everyone,

Sort of new to the site. I’ve used it to learn a lot so far about planted aquariums! I hope now that I have an account, I can directly ask for help and also offer help to others.

Currently I have a Fluval fx6 on my 75 gallon planted tank. In this tank I use Co2 and liquid fertz. However, inside the filter I have 2 black carbon filter pads. They’re like the regular foam pads but black. Do they actually have carbon in them? If so, is that good or bad for the liquid fertz I’m putting in? I’d hate to be putting fertilizer in just to take it right back out. Also, I just started treating for ich. Will the carbon pads remove the medicine before it has a chance to work? I noticed some spots on a couple of the neons so I (over the course of the day) bumped my temperature up to 85 degrees and started using Kordon Ich Attack. I know there Are stronger meds out there but I wanted something that wouldn’t hurt my snails or catfish. I also didn’t want something that could possibly stain my tank. I don’t mind taking the carbon pads out but what would be good to put in their place?
