So I just set up my lily pipe and the intake that came with it that has a surface slimmer. It works great and definitely cleaned up my surface from oil and scum in a matter of minutes. The only thing, is that the skimmer needs a certain amount of air in the chamber to float on the surface. So in doing so, the water heading to the filter from the main bottom intake will suck some of the air from the surface skimmer chamber and go into the filter and then shot back out into the aquarium after passing thru the filter. How do I prevent this? Or is it just inevitable?

This is the intake/skimmer

you are drawing too much flow from the surface. adjust the flow by turning the knob on the bottom. be careful, i've snapped off the bottom trying to turn that knob. you might want to take it out of your tank to work on and look what turning that knob does to affect flow. you want to have about 3/4 of the tube filled with water.

I have the knob on bottom 100% open for this reason. So the skimmer has the least amount of flow. But I think I fixed the issue. All I did was turn the filter off. Pull out the skimmer slide piece then place it back in carefully and then turned the filter back on. So far it is working with a small amount of water getting drawn into the skimmer with enough water at the bottom so the air doesn’t mix. I hope this will work. I was thinking my filter was too powerful.
